Poncho Gutierrez

Board Member

Poncho (he/them) is a former physician and health technology professional with a focus on systems-level healthcare improvement. He currently works as a Product Manager in digital health, supporting access to care, data use, and service delivery. He holds a Master’s in eHealth from McMaster University and has lived in Hamilton for the past eight years, where he has built a strong connection to the city and its communities.

Poncho’s experience spans clinical care, health data, and public health. He worked as a physician in Southern Oaxaca, Mexico, where he partnered with local rural communities and government organizations to support community-based health initiatives in resource-limited settings. This experience shaped his understanding of how strategy, resource allocation, and partnerships directly impact health outcomes, and continues to inform his work in digital health today.

Poncho brings both professional and lived perspectives to his work. As a queer newcomer to Canada, he has seen how barriers to care can take shape and how they affect individuals and communities. He is committed to contributing to governance discussions in a way that supports accessible, inclusive, and community-centered care, and to helping ensure that diverse voices and needs are reflected in decision-making.
